Ombre Nailpolish

Yes I love fancy manicures. Just a few seasons ago, these would probably have been considered tacky or ridic, but since about a year ago all of these fussy, eyecatching manicures have been all the rage. Ah, fashion! Anyway, I'm all for it. In fact I have been since I saw Gaga rock some fussy ass nails in the Judas video.

Furrrrce!

Anyway, so I tried this ombre shiz out. I spotted a step by step tutorial on Pinterest that seemed to yield the appropriate result, so I based my first effort on this tutorial from The Beauty Department.

Anyway, when I tried this out it came out a bit too blotchy to my liking. Soooo I googled some more. In the end, I found this tutorial over at glamour.com, easypeasy and delivering a much nicer end result than my first effort. All you need is two colors of nailpolish, a base coat and a top coat, a sponge, some plastic annnnd something to swish the colors together!

I basically did everything exactly the same as on that glamour.com tutorial, and it looks even more subtly gradient in real life so this one's a winner, and practically foolproof. Good luck!

  4. Oh mooi!

  6. Your nails came out really nice! I like this style of ombre nail more than the one with different colors on each nail.

  9. I've been wanting to try gradient nails! I'm completely into all the fancy nail art lately and I don't think I'll ever be over it since I've loved nail polish since elementary school. The pink version you did is super cute.

  10. Style Today had a (short but clear) video tutorial up on May 1st:

Apparently they skip the blending process but rather apply both shades of nail polish directly onto the sponge.

  17. Whether you blend the two shades of nail polish seperately and the apply them to the sponge, or apply them both directly onto the sponge shouldn't really make a difference. I think it's more a matter of "practice makes perfect" (your second attempt would have been better regardless the technique used).

  18. All sorts of clothing come in ombre now. I cn't immediately find the link to the haute-couture dresses, but here are some pictures to give you an idea: http://www.styletoday.be/mode/123199/ombre-kleding.
And Zara has some ombre garments in stock...but their website is currently under construction.

  19. Nope, because I tried it twice with the second method: the problem isn't me getting better at using the sponge (since I have used it many times before for galaxy nails), it's really the fact that you put the nailpolish on a piece of plastic first and then the sponge. When you paint directly onto the sponge, it soaks up more nailpolish, which leaves a very rough result when you apply to the nail. Also the beautydepartment tip of wetting the sponge gave a crap result. Trust me, the second way is better :D
